Oakland, MD

Oakland is the county seat of Garrett County, Maryland. Today, Garrett County hosts tourists year-round, who enjoying boating, fishing, camping, skiing, and other outdoor activities near Deep Creek Lake. The county is embedded in agricultural tradition, but Oakland is home to a historic Baltimore & Ohio Railroad station that connected the area to urban centers. Garrett County was created with land from Allegany County and named for B&O president John Work Garrett in 1872.
