Lewisburg, WV

Lewisburg is the county seat of Greenbrier County, which is rich in natural splendor and antebellum, Civil War, and industrial history. The city was offically founded in 1782, but white settlers had been in the area since the 1750s. During the Civil War, several skirmishes and engagements were fought near Lewisburg, including the Battle of Lewisburg in May 1862. In the late 19th century, Greenbrier County experienced similar industrial growth and social change as other counties in West Virginia and Appalachia.
